Orton, part of IMI Plc group under the division Process Automation, is an international leader in the manufacture of Butterfly and Ball Valves for over 50 years.
Manufacturing of Butterfly valves started in 1963, when Mr. Licini founded A.M.I. S.r.l to produce butterfly-lined valves, the Company subsequently changed its name to Orton Italiana and then to Orton.
At the same time, manufacturing of top entry wedge ball valves started in Birmingham in 1967 and then moved to Belgium, in Herstal (Liège): Truflo S.A. was founded.
In 1982 Orton started the production of Double Eccentric Rubber Seated butterfly valves and in 1987 the production of Triple Eccentric Metal Seated Valves.
In 1991 Truflo S.A was acquired by the British multinational group FCx International, a leading supplier of special flow control products with a presence in each continent worldwide and in 1944 acquired Rona (a company founded in 1906 to produce gate, globe, and check valves): Truflo Rona S.A. was born.
In 1998 Truflo Rona S.A acquired Royal, a company specializing in the manufacture of cryogenic butterfly valves for LNG.
The same group, FCx International, acquired Orton in 1993. Orton continued to grow and in March 1996 the Company relocated to new larger facilities in S. Nicolo' a Trebbia. FCx International awarded to Orton factory the Royal production to strengthen the Orton presence on the Cryogenic Valve market.
In 2006 the British multinational group IMI plc acquired Orton and Truflo Rona SA.
In the same year, the C-rex design, double eccentric segmented ball valve was launched on the market by Truflo Rona SA.
Starting from October 2007, Orton relocated its offices and manufacturing plant from San Nicolo' a Trebbia to Piacenza, in the current location. The unused San Nicolo' plant was used to increase the production capacity of Truflo Rona SA.
In 2013 there was the foundation of the Italian division specialized in Side entry and parallel seats design, under the name of Truflo Rona S.r.l.
In 2017 Truflo Rona Srl carried out various intercompany works for Truflo Belgium, until it completely inherited all the Belgian production in 2018, when the Herstal plant closed. Truflo Rona Srl achieved a wide product portfolio for ball valves.
Orton S.r.l. and Truflo Rona S.r.l. continued to grow and in September 2020 the merger of the two companies was announced. We are now a new unique legal entity, always focused on developing new solutions for our customers, in synergy with the other companies of the IMI group.
